The Shockingly Simple Cure For Sunburn Is Here

Sunburn

The summer season is upon us, and you certainly don’t want this to happen to you or anyone in your family. We are told this natural sunscreen works wonders.

These days, many people are concerned about the number of chemical based product on the market and the long-term effects they may have on our bodies. For this reason, many people are returning to organically grown herbal home remedies in place of newly developed, scientifically researched and lab created medications.

If you are worried about skin cancer, but do not wish to cover your body with potentially toxic chemical sunscreens, there is a simple organic solution. Before you go to the beach, rub your body down with shiitake mushrooms.

Shiitake mushrooms are a rich source of zinc oxide, the active ingredient in many commercially available sunscreens. To make these sunscreens, zinc is extracted and oxidized into a powder. It is then mixed with various oils and chemicals to form a lotion that is applied to the skin. Since the zinc is the stuff that protects your skin, why not just cut out the chemical soup.

A 100 g serving of shiitake mushrooms contains 1.33 mg of zinc oxide. The average zinc oxide based sunscreen contains between five and 10% of the active ingredient, therefore you will need at least forty to fifty servings to make this work.

Simply take the mushrooms firmly in you hand, squeeze until the juice runs out, and smear the resulting mush all over your body. If at first it will not stick properly, don’t worry. Just lay down in the sand until the sun dries and hardens the mush, thus adhering it to your body. If you are the impatient sort, you may wish to enlist the aid of an organic adhesive, such as honey or tree sap as an alternative.

If you are planning a group outing to the beach, it is important to note that zinc oxide works by reflecting or scattering the sun’s ultraviolet rays before they reach your skin. It is sort of like having your own personal sun shield. This could, however, be dangerous for anyone audacious enough to still hang out with you once the shiitake mushrooms are applied. If they stand to close to you, they could get a double dose of these harmful rays. Therefore, everyone in your party should properly rub themselves down with some shiitake mushrooms of their own.

If, by some off chance, you have gone to the beach without any shiitake mushrooms in your cooler, and need an alternative, you could also chop down a palm tree. Palm hearts contain about 3.7 mg of zinc oxide per 100 g, but are more abrasive to apply.
