Cecil Ray Shepherd, 62, of Mt. Nebo, passed away November 22, 2017 at home.

He was born March 11, 1955 a son of the late Guy Robert and Charlotte Ann Nichols Shepherd.

He was a heavy equipment operator.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Ray Shepherd; sisters, Sandra Belt of Clendenin and Irene Morris of Sutton.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert Shepherd, Jr. and Kenneth Lee Shepherd; sisters, Phyllis Ann Paintiff and Edith Kay Hall.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Rev. Bob Paintiff officiating. Interment will be in the Paintiff Cemetery, Upper Sleith.

Visitation will be two hours prior to service at the funeral home.

Marilyn Virginia Meadows, age 61, of Elkins, WV died Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

She was born January 25, 1956 in Buckhannon, WV, a daughter of   Margerite Virginia Harris Zirkle of Belington, WV and the late Ishmael Worth Zirkle. On August 19, 2010 she married Billy Meadows who survives. Also surviving is one son, Charles Simmons, III and wife Beatrice Marie of Buckhannon; one grandson, Konnor Simmons of Buckhannon; three brothers, Roger Zirkle and wife Laurie of IA, Bobbie Zirkle of Rock Cave, WV and Larry Zirkle and wife Leona of Mabie, WV; one sister, Roberta Lee and husband JR of Durham, ND and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Zirkle. Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker and a member of the Good Shepherd Assembly of God. She was well known at the Elkins flea market where she would paint and sell crafts and she was famous for her pepperoni rolls and creamy peanut butter fudge.

Friends will be received Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Foster officiating.

Burial will follow in the Indian Camp Church Cemetery in French Creek, WV. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. Mary Virginia “Granny” Howes, age 92, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, November 24, 2017 at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

She was born March 22, 1925 in Grafton, WV, a daughter of the late Squire French and Nora Jane McVicker Loudin. She married Joseph Ray Howes who died on January 10, 2002.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Dunham and Thelma Loudin and four brothers, Colonel, Ira and Calvin Loudin and Nolda Murphy. She is survived by one daughter, Lois A. Howell and husband Kenneth of Buckhannon; two sons, Wayne Howes and wife Starlene of Clarksville, TN and Harold Howes and wife Imogene of Crawford, WV; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Howes was a homemaker and Christian by faith.  Friends will be received Friday, December 1, 2017 from 10 AM – 12 Noon at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 12 Noon Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV. Jo Anne Bright, 67, of Virginia St. Jane Lew went home to be with the Lord at 9:06 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the comfort of her home, with family by her side.

She was born in Fairmont on October 23, 1950 and is survived by her parents, Dortha Lorene McCartney Fisher and Rodney Fisher, of Weston; three children: Connie Queen and husband, Kevin, of Jane Lew, David A. Bright of Clarksburg, and Beverly A. Bright of Jane Lew; two grandchildren: Courtney Simmons and husband, William of Weston, Kelsey Johnson and companion, Josh Simmons, of Jane Lew; four great grandchildren: Arianna, McKenzie, Abigail, and Isaiah; five siblings: Vicki Bright and husband, Gary, of Rivesville, Judy Cawthone of CA, Gregory Parker and wife, Agnes, of TN, Rick Fisher of FL, and Mark Fisher of FL; several nieces and nephews; and her best friends, and beloved dog, Chloe.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Parker.

Jo worked as a cook for the Jane Lew Truck Stop for over 15 years. She enjoyed working puzzles, cross stitching, reading, quilting, collecting angels, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jo’s request for cremation has been honored. Friends and family will gather at the Jane Lew Fire Department for a Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 with Pastor Fred Templeton officiating.

Nedra I. Cowgar Gane, 89, of Annapolis, MD went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 while in hospice care at her sister, Judy’s home in Buckhannon, WV.

Nedra was born in Dianna, WV on August 22, 1928 and moved to Catonsville, MD as a young woman.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lee Athey and husband, Thomas R. Athey, Sr. of Summerfield, FL, and her son, Louis F. Medeiros, Jr. of Annapolis, MD. Nedra is also survived by her three grandchildren: Jeanne Athey-Mosmiller, Thomas Athey Jr. and wife, Latoscha of Glen Burnie, MD, and Clinton Athey and wife, Linda, of Fernandina Beach, FL; nine great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; three sisters: Rita Gatto of Ocean City, MD, Faye Langford of South Boston, VA, and Judy and Bob Horner of Buckhannon, WV; and several nieces and nephews, one of them being her niece, Gerri, who always looked after her while she was in Florida.

Nedra was preceded in death by her parents, Denzil and Genevieve Cowgar; her brother, Larry Cowgar of Glen Burnie, MD; and a half sister, Joyce Hoeim of Freeland, MD; and a great nephew, Bengie Robinson of Glen Burnie, MD.

Nedra had many accomplishments in her life. As a young girl, she sang and played guitar on the radio. She held jobs as a Telephone Supervisor in Catonsville, MD; a Hair Dresser licensed in Texas and Massachusetts; a real estate broker in Massachusetts; and she had Actress experience. She proceeded with her education and earned her Masters Degree in Special Education and Counseling. She worked as a Counselor at Good Will in Baltimore County, and taught Special Education in Ann Arundel County Public Schools, MD from which she retired. She enjoyed painting, made beautiful beaded jewelry, loved flowers, and traveling in the U.S. and overseas, many times with her sister, Judy.

Friends and family will gather for a graveside Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, with Pastor Steve Hall officiating, at the Glen Haven Memorial Park at 7231 Ritchie Hwy Suite E. in Glen Burnie, MD 21061. “We will meet you by the river.”

Irene Virginia Marsh, 64, of South River Ave. Weston passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Jane Lew.

She was born in Lewis County on August 25, 1953 a daughter of the late John Lewis Marsh and Aretta L. Cool Marsh.

She is survived by three siblings: Sandra Butcher of Copley, Mandie Jan Lambert of Buckhannon, and Pauline Helen Curtis of Bendale; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers: Lewis Edward Marsh, Don Russell Marsh, Delbert Charles Marsh, Carl Ervin Marsh, and Roy Junior Marsh; as well as a brother-in-law, Arthur Curtis.

Irene radiated a sweet, fun-loving and child-like spirit, and she loved playing with children, listening to country music, and spending time with family and friends (especially her little sister, Sandy) who shared in her joy to laugh, sing, and dance.

Friends and family will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 12-1 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. from the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew.

Rebecca “Becky” Loraine Ireland, 73, of Autumn Lane Beckley passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2017 in the Charleston Area Medical Center.

She was born in Weston on July 5, 1944 a daughter of the late Robert Lester James and Betty Regenia Adolt James.

She is survived by six children: Candi Cayton of Cleveland, OH, Dale Cutright of Spencer, Greg Cutright and wife, Missy, of Massilon, OH, Bridget Stanley and husband, John, of Loganville, GA, Gary Cutright and companion, Angie, of Beckley, and Shannon “Sam” Chambers and husband, Jimmy, of Spencer; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two siblings: Karen Dolph of Maine, and Rick James and wife, Phyllis, of Weston; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend and beloved Shih Tzu, Buffy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Krista Romel.

Rebecca worked at Argle’s Gun and Pawn Shop in Gassaway for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, crafting, and working puzzles. She loved animals and once had a Quaker Parrot. She was a member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church.

Rebecca’s request for cremation has been honored and her family will have a private burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Jane Lew. Expressions of sympathy may be sent directly to the family.
