This part of the Appalachian Trail straddles the Tennessee/North Carolina border. It has easy access and is just a short walk to some great views. It’s an easy couple of hours or less for folks who want to take in some great scenery without hiking a lot.
It would definitely get you excited about hiking the length of the trail as a bucket list item.
If you get down that way you should definitely take a look. It will be well worth your time and effort.
According to Wiki, the trail is about 2,200 miles (3,500 km) long, though the exact length changes over time as parts are modified or rerouted.[a] The Appalachian Trail Conservancy reports that the Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only trail in the world. More than 2 million people are said to take a hike on part of the trail at least once each year.
It was started in 1921 and completed in 1937 though improvements are made continuously.
